Eight 16-year-old students from a private coaching academy in Pune died after being swept away while swimming at Diveagar beach in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. Rescue efforts by local residents, police and a water-sports operator recovered all eight bodies, and police have registered a case as the investigation continues.

Eight students from a private coaching academy in Pune died after they were swept away while swimming at Diveagar beach in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Thursday. The students were part of a group of 48 people from Winners Academy for 11th and 12th in Alandi. The group included 25 boys, 17 girls and six teachers and had travelled to Dighi Sagari in Diveagar for a trip.

According to authorities, the students entered the sea to swim but were unable to accurately judge the current and depth of the water. Eight were swept away. Rescue operations began immediately, involving local residents, police and the administration.

All eight bodies were later recovered. The deceased were identified as Tanmay Dattatray Vahile, Sumit Bharat Ahire, Pranav Ramdas Bansode, Kaivalya Satish Wasankar, Rajveer Yuvraj Vahile, Yash Kiran Wankhede, Soham Tukaram Bhandvalkar and Kaustubh Sandeep Daund. All of them were 16 years old and residents of Alandi in Pune.

The bodies were shifted to the Primary Health Centre at Borli Panchatan for medical and legal procedures. Bhau Maruti Salunkhe, owner of a local water-sports operation, and his team joined the search after receiving information about the incident. The account said Mr.

Salunkhe and his team made repeated efforts to retrieve the students from the water. Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Awati of Dighi Sagari Borli Panchatan police station also reached the location with his team. Police worked with local villagers to recover the bodies.
