AIKMS president Vemulapalli Venkataramaiah made the appeal at a public meeting in Khammam on Monday. The event marked the beginning of the organisation’s three-day fourth national conference.
Venkataramaiah said a united struggle should be built along the lines of the farmers’ movement that led the BJP-led Central government to repeal the three farm laws in 2021. He argued that the experience showed the potential of collective action. AIKMS general secretary Ashish Mittal alleged that the Central government was acting in the interests of corporations at the expense of farmers and workers.
He said the organisation would continue defending agricultural labourers and opposing attempts to corporatise farming. Leaders from different parts of India addressed the gathering. Earlier, activists held a rally in Khammam before the public meeting.
Farmers, agricultural labourers and tribal people from Agency areas took part in the rally. Cultural activists from the Arunodaya organisation, representing Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and other states, performed during the event. The statements at the meeting reflected the AIKMS’s political position.
