Fela FC defeated Future Heroes 5-1 in the final of the 2026 MTN Independence Cup at Fela Field in Lagos. Eto scored twice as Fela completed a 24-goal campaign, while goalkeeper Korede and midfielder Sammy collected individual awards.

Fela FC have won the 2026 MTN Independence Cup after defeating Future Heroes 5-1 in the final at Fela Field, Ipaja, Lagos. Eto scored twice as Fela controlled the match and secured the seventh edition of the grassroots competition sponsored by MTN. The forward gave Fela a 1-0 lead before half-time and doubled the advantage after the restart.

Future Heroes pulled a goal back to make the score 2-1, but Fela responded decisively. Faruq restored the champions’ two-goal lead, Gbenga added a fourth and a late fifth goal completed the victory. Fela had reached the final after a strong run through the tournament.

They beat Ayobo All Stars 3-1 and Kemon FC 3-0 in the group stage, although they lost 2-0 to Premier Ballers. The champions then defeated Junior Milan 3-0 in the round of 16 and Grace FC 5-0 in the quarter-finals. Their semi-final against HS FC ended goalless before Fela won 5-3 on penalties.

Fela scored 24 goals and conceded seven during the competition. Future Heroes also entered the final unbeaten in open play, beating Trenches Kids and Treasure FC in the group stage before drawing with Martel FC. Future Heroes defeated Austin Tigers 4-1 in the last 16, Bravo Gee 2-1 in the quarter-finals and Breeze FC 1-0 in the semi-finals.

They scored 16 goals and conceded eight before losing to Fela. Fela goalkeeper Korede was named Best Goalkeeper and teammate Sammy received the Most Valuable Player award. Lion Heart FC forward Okoye Onyekachi finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with 12 goals, while Toma FC were named the Best Behaved Team.
