Speaking in Ibadan, he said subsidy removal had worsened hardship and urged stronger leadership against terrorism, banditry and other social problems.

Former Christian Association of Nigeria president Rev Samson Ayokunle has urged President Bola Tinubu to take urgent action against hunger, insecurity and inflation in Nigeria. Ayokunle spoke with journalists on Friday at the 10th anniversary of Oritamefa Baptist Model School Cambridge A’Level College in Yemetu, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State. He said economic conditions were making it increasingly difficult for Nigerians to survive and called for policies that would directly reduce public hardship.

He acknowledged that petrol-subsidy removal may have been intended as a policy measure, but said it had intensified pressure because adequate measures had not been introduced to cushion citizens. Ayokunle also called for determined action against terrorism, banditry and other social vices. He said Nigerians would experience relief when political leaders were no longer complicit in insecurity, and argued that government should not play politics with human lives.

He linked the economic strain to low earnings and the devaluation of the naira, saying many citizens had been pushed into abject poverty. He also urged authorities to improve education by releasing funds and monitoring their use. Ayokunle expressed optimism that Nigeria would survive its current difficulties and said the country’s future would depend on more determined leadership.

Earlier, former Oritamefa Baptist Church pastor Rev Remi Awopegba advised young Nigerians not to allow their environment to limit their ambitions.
