Former foster carers charged with child sexual offences in Victoria
Daniel and Andrew Grey, who were previously profiled as young foster carers in Victoria, have been charged with child sexual offences. The allegations are before the courts. Organisations connected with the men said they could not comment on active proceedings.
Two men previously praised as among Anglicare Victoria’s youngest foster carers have been charged with child sexual offences, according to court documents reported by ABC News. Andrew Clifford Grey, 28, and Daniel James Grey, 26, were charged by the Australian Federal Police in May. A suppression order that had prevented the identification of Andrew Grey was lifted last week.
Police allege Andrew Grey sexually assaulted a child under 16 and produced, transmitted and possessed child-abuse material. Daniel Grey faces charges involving online child-abuse material, using a carriage service to plan or prepare sexual activity with a child, failing to report child sexual offences and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. Both men are also charged with engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child.
Daniel Grey’s lawyer told Bendigo Magistrates’ Court that more time was needed to review the large volume of material and speak with police. Andrew Grey is due back in court in October, while Daniel Grey’s matter was adjourned until November. The men were publicly profiled in 2022 after saying they had been foster carers for 11 months.
Anglicare Victoria said it could not comment because the case was before the courts. A Northern Health spokesperson said Andrew Grey’s role at the organisation did not involve working with children. Schools connected with Daniel Grey notified parents that the charges did not involve their students.
A childcare centre said his role there had been non-educational and did not provide unsupervised access to children.
