Former Kogi State Governor Ibrahim Idris has been buried at Gudu Cemetery in Abuja after his death in the United Kingdom at the age of 77. Idris served as Kogi governor from 2003 until January 2012.
He returned to office after winning a March 2008 governorship re-run election held following a legal challenge to the 2007 election. He was succeeded by Wada. Following Idris’s death, Ododo declared three days of mourning across Kogi State.
He also directed that the Nigerian and Kogi flags be flown at half-mast at government offices and other designated public institutions. The governor announced that Idris would receive a state burial, with the Kogi State Government responsible for the arrangements and expenses. In a condolence letter, Ododo described the death as a profound loss to Kogi and Nigeria.
Ododo said Idris had devoted a significant part of his life to public service. He also credited the former administration with interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare and other sectors. Idris was born in Idah, Kogi State, in 1949.
He studied law at the University of Abuja and worked as a businessman before entering politics. He founded Ibro Trading Company, which had interests in construction, furniture manufacturing and hospitality.
