Greenwich Bank has opened branches in Surulere, Ikoyi and Victoria Island, beginning its physical expansion after changing from a merchant bank to a commercial bank with regional authorisation. Lagos officials welcomed the move, while the bank said it would combine branch access with digital services and expand within its approved operating regions.
Greenwich Bank has opened its first three commercial banking branches in Lagos, marking the initial phase of its physical expansion after transitioning from a merchant bank to a commercial bank with regional authorisation. The branches, located in Surulere, Ikoyi and Victoria Island, were formally opened on Friday, October 2. The Lagos State Government described the expansion as a development that could support financial inclusion, wealth creation and economic growth.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented at the Ikoyi commissioning by Finance Commissioner Abayomi Oluyomi, said the bank could help individuals and businesses grow. He said Greenwich’s experience in Nigeria’s financial services industry gave it an important role in the state’s economy. Group Chairman Kayode Falowo said the bank planned to establish more branches in locations covered by its Central Bank of Nigeria authorisation.
He said the institution intended to offer the same professional service to market traders and corporate customers. Falowo added that the physical network would complement Greenwich’s digital channels by combining accessibility through branches with technology-driven banking services. Greenwich Bank Chairman Segun Olekutuyi described the openings as a significant milestone and said the bank would focus on service quality, integrity, speed and value for customers.
Group Managing Director Oyewale Ariyibi said Greenwich Holdings would strengthen its capital base, expand retail financial services and accelerate digital transformation. Managing Director Benson Ogundeji said the commercial licence would allow the bank to extend its corporate and institutional banking heritage to individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises and other businesses.
