Halloween weekend shootings across US leave at least six dead and dozens hurt

At least six people were killed and dozens injured in a series of shootings across the United States during Halloween weekend, with the deadliest violence reported in Dallas. Police and officials described separate incidents in nightlife districts and near college campuses, while investigations remained active and several cases had produced no arrests.
At least six people were killed and dozens were injured in shootings across the United States during Halloween weekend, according to officials cited by ABC News. The violence occurred in nightlife areas, near college campuses and around a major college football event, with the largest number of deaths reported in Dallas. Four people were killed and 15 wounded in several shootings in Dallas’s Deep Ellum neighbourhood, a district known for music, restaurants and nightlife.
Police said three incidents unfolded on Saturday night over about an hour and 15 minutes. Investigators had not determined whether the shootings were connected or what triggered them. Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said some arrests had been made but did not provide a number or specify charges.
He described the area as a large, spread-out crime scene. Police had increased their presence there before the shootings, and no officers were injured. In Birmingham, Alabama, one person was killed and eight others were wounded in two shootings near Legion Field after the annual Magic City Classic football game.
Two of the injured were in critical condition on Sunday, according to fire officials. Almost 70,000 people attended the game between Alabama State and Alabama A&M, which Alabama A&M won 31-28. Police said most spectators and families had left the stadium grounds when the Birmingham shootings occurred.
The first was reported near vendors on Graymont Avenue, but officials had not clarified the circumstances or the location of the fatality. One person was detained and multiple weapons were recovered, police said. Near the University of Delaware campus in Newark, six people were shot late Saturday and taken to hospitals.
Their conditions were not available in the report. A video shared on social media showed people fleeing, and a section of Main Street was closed for several hours while police investigated. A shooting early Sunday near Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, killed a 19-year-old woman and left another woman in critical condition.
Six additional people suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening. In Fayetteville, Arkansas, six people were taken to hospitals after a shooting near the University of Arkansas. Police said no arrests had been made and that an altercation appeared to precede the incident.
Two further deaths were reported in separate shootings at Spirit Halloween stores on Friday. In Fairfield, California, police said a woman was killed inside the store in what they described as a targeted attack; six others were wounded, and relatives told police she was pregnant. No immediate arrests were reported.
In Madison Heights, Michigan, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot, and a man assaulted by bystanders as officers detained him was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The reports do not establish a single link among the incidents. They describe separate investigations, and authorities had not explained the causes of several shootings.
In Birmingham, Newark and Fayetteville, details remained incomplete, while Dallas police were still assessing whether the three shootings in that city were related.
