Home Ministry says Moosa’s killing weakens LeT network in J&K
India’s Union Home Ministry said the killing of senior Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Moosa in Jammu and Kashmir dealt a serious blow to the group’s operating network. It said Moosa was the last of four senior commanders active in the Union Territory since 2022 to be killed by security forces.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs said on Wednesday that the killing of senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant Moosa was a serious setback to the group’s network in Jammu and Kashmir. The ministry confirmed Moosa’s death in a statement, describing the operation as part of a sustained campaign by security forces against the militant organisation. The Army said a joint search operation involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force was launched in the general area of Korag, Yousmarg, in Budgam on the night of September 29.
The operation was based on specific intelligence, it said. According to the Home Ministry, Moosa was the last of four senior LeT commanders operating in the Union Territory since 2022 to be neutralised. The ministry linked the group to attacks including those at Halan, DKG, Kandi, Shahsitar, Shiv Khori, Gagangir, Bootapathri and Baisaran.
The ministry said the other three commanders were Junaid Bhat, killed at Dachigam on December 3, 2024; Suleman, killed during Operation Mahadev on July 28, 2025; and Yasir, killed during Operation Asdhar on September 4, 2026. It said Moosa’s encounter formed part of an ongoing, long-sustained operation. The statement did not provide further details about the encounter or identify any casualties among the security forces.
