Kalaburagi orders health checks and wider benefits for sanitation workers

Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Ikram Shariff has directed the City Corporation to ensure that all sanitation workers and sanitation staff undergo a master health check-up by the end of the week. Chairing a district-level meeting of sanitation workers and officials in Kalaburagi on Wednesday, Mr. Shariff instructed the authorities to prepare a schedule for completing the exercise.

He said the health and safety of sanitation workers should receive the highest priority. Officials were asked to examine private insurance and Employees’ State Insurance benefits and take steps to maximise health coverage. Mr.

Shariff also directed them to ensure that every employee received provident fund and ESI benefits wherever applicable under labour regulations, and that wages were paid on time. The Deputy Commissioner ordered the immediate distribution of gloves, masks, night jackets and raincoats. Officials were told to ensure that workers used the equipment properly.

He expressed displeasure over delays in the tender process for jetting and sucking machines needed for sanitation work. Pending files were to be cleared and a report submitted within 48 hours. Mr.

Shariff warned officials against attending meetings without preparation or providing unclear information. He said negligence and administrative delays would not be tolerated and that serious lapses could lead to disciplinary action, including suspension. He also directed authorities to use SCSP and TSP funds for housing and other basic needs of workers rather than unnecessary works.

City Corporation Commissioner Avinash Shinde and other district officials attended the meeting.
