Kano pledges land for permanent NIPR facility

The Kano State Government will consider allocating land for a permanent facility for the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Director-General of Media and Publicity Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said. The government also pledged support for professional training and confirmed the state’s participation in the 2026 World Public Relations Forum.
The Kano State Government has pledged to allocate land for the construction of a permanent facility for the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in the state. Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity to Governor Yusuf, disclosed the plan on Saturday while receiving an awareness walk organised by the Kano State chapter of the NIPR at the Government House. Bature said the governor had directed the state chapter to submit a formal request for land.
The request would allow the government to consider an allocation for the institute’s future facility. He also said Kano would participate fully in the World Public Relations Forum, scheduled to take place in Abuja from November 15 to 21, 2026. The forum is being organised by the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management and hosted by the NIPR under the theme “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the World.” Bature said the state government intended to work with both the national and state NIPR chapters on training and retraining.
He added that the government wanted new members to understand and follow professional ethics in public relations. He further assured media and public relations practitioners of government support for their professional activities and safety. Bature said the state had spent more than N150m in 2026 on welfare interventions for media and public relations professionals, including mobility, work tools, shelter and medical assistance.
NIPR Kano chairman Aliyu Yusuf thanked the governor for the commitments, saying they would strengthen the institute’s activities and contribute to the professional development of practitioners in the state.
