Karnataka lecturers seek wider applications for Kalyana Karnataka candidates

The Karnataka State Pre-University College Lecturers’ Association has asked the State government to allow eligible candidates from Kalyana Karnataka to apply for Residual Parent Cadre posts in the recruitment of Group-A principals. The association said candidates from the region should be allowed to compete for the 216 RPC posts as well as the 31 posts reserved for the Kalyana Karnataka Local Cadre, subject to the applicable eligibility and recruitment rules. The Karnataka Examinations Authority invited applications on September 7 for 247 Group-A principal posts.

The association said candidates from Kalyana Karnataka were currently being allowed to apply only for the 31 regional posts. Speaking at a press conference in Kalaburagi on Tuesday, association district president N.T. Rangoli said the restriction was creating difficulties for eligible applicants from the region.

Rangoli said candidates from Kalyana Karnataka had special reservation benefits under Article 371(J) of the Constitution. In his view, those benefits should not prevent eligible candidates from applying for RPC posts. He said applicants should not be denied an opportunity to compete for the wider pool of posts simply because they qualified for regional reservation.

The association called for steps to ensure that eligible candidates were not excluded from the recruitment process. Rangoli also asked the KEA to extend the deadline for applications. Candidates may need to obtain a Kalyana Karnataka resident certificate and an income certificate in Form-H from the Revenue Department, a process he said could take 15 to 20 days.

The association urged the KEA and the concerned department to address the certificate and application issues before the deadline so candidates from the region could participate.
