Karnataka offers support to Dubai investors interested in tourism

Karnataka will offer support to investors from Dubai who have expressed interest in the State’s tourism sector, Minister for Energy and Tourism K.J. George said in Mysuru on Sunday. Speaking at World Tourism Day celebrations at the Mysuru Palace premises, Mr.
George said several Indians he met during his recent visit to Dubai had shown interest in investing in tourism projects in Karnataka. He said the government would provide the investors with the necessary facilities and give them a “red-carpet” welcome. The Minister said the State was committed to developing tourism and ensuring the profitable functioning of institutions operating in the sector.
Mr. George said Karnataka had granted industry status to tourism infrastructure and introduced a new tourism policy to support long-term investment and provide greater incentives. Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait urged the government to create a tourism circuit covering five districts.
He said such a circuit could help visitors access temples, wildlife sanctuaries, the zoo and attractions including Brindavan Gardens at the KRS dam. Mr. Sait also proposed illuminating the Mysuru Palace for at least 30 minutes at a fixed time every day throughout the year.
He said this could encourage tourists to stay overnight in Mysuru, and called for greater promotion of traditional tonga rides and city-tour networks. The Minister said destinations in the coastal region, Malnad, Hampi, Badami, Vijayapura, Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru, as well as UNESCO-recognised heritage sites, were being developed as priorities. Separate seating and other facilities were also being arranged for foreign tourists visiting Mysuru during Dasara.
