Katsina plans to triple agripreneurship trainees under 2027 budget

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has announced plans to expand the state’s Agripreneurship Training Programme and increase the number of young people receiving training across the state. Radda disclosed the plan on Wednesday during an inspection visit to the Agripreneurship Training Centre in Dutsin-Ma. He said the 2027 budget would include funding to upgrade the centre and raise enrolment from one trainee per ward to three.
The expansion is expected to increase the number of beneficiaries to more than 1,000 young agripreneurs. The governor said the programme was intended to improve agricultural productivity, create employment and promote self-reliance. Radda said his visit was aimed at assessing activities at the centre and identifying the support required for it to deliver quality training.
He urged participants to remain disciplined, committed and courageous, saying the initiative was designed to produce employers of labour rather than job seekers. The governor promised continued government support, including tools and opportunities to help trainees establish agricultural businesses and contribute to the state’s economic development. The Commissioner for Agriculture, Lawal Shargelle, urged participants to understand the purpose of the programme and treat the training seriously.
He described them as potential agents of transformation and encouraged them to return to their wards, mentor others, create jobs and support grassroots agricultural development. Radda’s visit was attended by members of the State Executive Council, the coordinator of the Agricultural Development Programme, the chairman of Dutsin-Ma Local Government, the village head of Makera and officials of relevant agencies. The governor also signed the Katsina State 2027 Appropriation Bill into law on Wednesday.
The Assembly approved a total budget of N828.58bn, including N190.73bn for recurrent expenditure and N637.85bn for capital spending.
