Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has asked Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to consider a project for developing Srirangapatna under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. Kumaraswamy’s office said Shekhawat responded positively and would examine the submitted project report on priority.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy has urged the Centre to develop Srirangapatna in Karnataka as a major tourism destination. Kumaraswamy, who represents Mandya in the Lok Sabha, met Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on Wednesday.
He asked the Minister to consider a Detailed Project Report for the “Destination Development of Srirangapatna” under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. According to a statement from Kumaraswamy’s office, the proposal seeks focused development of the historically significant town and its tourism infrastructure. Srirangapatna is home to several temples and attractions, including the Ranganathaswamy Temple.
The project report is intended to use the area’s heritage and tourism potential while developing it as a wider tourism hub. Kumaraswamy also sought the Centre’s support for strengthening tourism infrastructure across Karnataka. The Union Minister said Shekhawat had responded positively to the request and assured him that the proposal would be examined on priority, with appropriate action to follow.
Kumaraswamy’s office also said Shekhawat had a special interest in Srirangapatna. The report did not provide details of the proposed project’s estimated cost, construction schedule or specific infrastructure components. Any development under the scheme would depend on the Centre’s examination of the project report and subsequent action.
For now, the meeting represents a request for central support to promote Srirangapatna’s heritage and tourism facilities.
