The Confederation of African Football has confirmed Lagos as the host city for the 2026 CAF Awards, scheduled for December 7 at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts. The ceremony will return to Lagos for the first time since the 2014 edition.

Lagos will host the 2026 CAF Awards on December 7, the Confederation of African Football has confirmed. The ceremony will take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly known as the National Theatre, in Iganmu. The event will return to Lagos more than 11 years after the city last staged the continental awards ceremony.

It will be the fourth time Lagos has hosted the event, following editions in 2008, 2013 and 2014. The last Lagos edition was held on January 8, 2015, for the 2014 awards. Former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Toure won the African Player of the Year award for a record fourth consecutive time, while Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala won the women’s prize.

Toure had also won the men’s award at the 2013 ceremony in Lagos. On that occasion, he was selected ahead of Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel and fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba. The 2026 event is expected to bring together leading African players, coaches, administrators and other football stakeholders.

CAF will use the ceremony to recognise performances and contributions across individual and team categories. The awards are among the major events on the African football calendar. Players from across the continent will compete for recognition in several categories, although the source material does not specify the nominees.

With the date and venue confirmed, preparations for the ceremony are expected to become the focus before CAF announces the nominees. The return of the event gives Lagos another opportunity to host a major continental sporting gathering. Football personalities from across Africa are expected to attend the December ceremony.

CAF’s confirmation establishes the city and date for the event but does not provide further details about the programme or attendance arrangements.
