Makinde predicts APM sweep in 2027 after receiving APC defectors

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has predicted that the Allied People’s Movement will win widely in the 2027 elections after receiving thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress. He spoke on Monday at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, according to Channels Television. The defectors were led by Ajiboye Sangogade, known as Boye Nation, and came from several local government areas.

Sangogade was described as a personal assistant and loyalist of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu. Makinde said the movement demonstrated growing support for the APM and predicted victory in all elections in 2027. Makinde also urged APC governorship candidate Sharafadeen Alli to focus on winning voters rather than criticising his administration.

He said Alli should direct his attention to APM candidate Bimbo Adekanmbi, whom he endorsed as the preferred choice for governor. Makinde again criticised Alli’s legal career and said he lacked professional recognition comparable to Makinde’s engineering fellowship or Adekanmbi’s accounting qualification. The governor further addressed criticism of diesel generators used to power streetlights.

He argued that the generators would not be necessary if the Federal Government had resolved Nigeria’s electricity problems, referring to a campaign promise by President Bola Tinubu. Makinde said the continued power challenge had made the diesel-powered arrangement necessary. The event, themed “Young, United, Unstoppable”, formally welcomed Sangogade and his supporters into the APM.
