Makinde promises four-year national reset if elected in 2027

Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has said Nigeria can be reset within four years if he wins the 2027 presidential election. Makinde spoke on Monday at the APM North-Central Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State. He said his proposed administration would introduce a new security architecture, change the direction of education and use data, science and logic to rebuild the economy.

He also proposed a transitional government of national unity that would lead to new political actors and an agenda for sustainable development. Makinde criticised the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity, particularly in the North-Central region. He questioned the planning behind the creation of additional army divisions and said he could not find provisions for them in the 2026 budget.

He also asked whether higher allocations to state governments had translated into better living conditions. According to him, increased revenue to states had not ended hunger. Speaking about Oyo, Makinde said the state’s dependence on federal allocation fell from more than 80 per cent in 2019 to about 65 per cent in 2022, but had since returned to almost 80 per cent after petrol subsidy removal.

He said his proposed reset would address Nigeria’s security, political, educational and economic challenges within a four-year term.
