More than 195 sheep killed after entering Telangana railway track

More than 195 sheep were killed after entering the railway track between Bibinagar and Ghatkesar stations in Telangana early on Tuesday. Railway officials said the incident occurred at about 2.32 a.m. at railway kilometre 221/29-30.

Train No. 12722, the Dakshin Express travelling from New Delhi to Hyderabad, passed through the section at the time. The flock was owned by 70-year-old shepherd Balamoni Kistaiah, a resident of Allinagar in Pochampalli mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, according to railway personnel.

Kistaiah said he had brought the sheep to East City, near Bibinagar, about a month earlier for grazing. He told railway staff that he placed the flock inside an enclosure on Monday night before going to sleep. When he woke, the sheep were no longer in the enclosure.

He searched the surrounding area and later found the animals dead on the railway tracks. According to the railway report, Kistaiah said dogs and wild boars frequently entered the area where the sheep were kept. He suspected that dogs may have chased the flock, causing the frightened animals to move towards the tracks.
