Organisers have held the pairing ceremony for the 2026 Dasara wrestling tournament in Mysuru, with the seven-day competition scheduled from October 11 to 17. The event will feature Nadakusti, Point Wrestling and Panja Wrestling, and the State government says it will support the traditional competition as a platform for local and State-level wrestlers.

The pairing ceremony for the 2026 Dasara wrestling tournament was held at the D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium in Mysuru on Sunday, marking a preparatory step ahead of the annual competition. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Minister in-charge of Mysuru district and Urban Development Minister, attended the ceremony and released the official poster for the tournament.

The competition will be held from October 11 to 17 as part of the Dasara festivities. The tournament will feature three categories: Nadakusti, Point Wrestling and Panja Wrestling. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 4 a.m.

on October 11 at the D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium, the same day that the Dasara celebrations are due to begin. Speaking at the event, Siddaramaiah said the wrestling competition had become as popular as the Jamboo Savari.

He described wrestling as a traditional sport rooted in the region’s heritage and said competitions had been held since the period of the erstwhile Mysuru kings. The minister said the State government would provide greater encouragement to the event. He identified its main purpose as creating a platform for local and State-level wrestlers, and told participants that sporting spirit and participation were more important than victory or defeat.

He also said the competition attracted spectators from across India and abroad, although the source material did not provide attendance figures. The Dasara Wrestling Sub-Committee has arranged for wrestlers from across Karnataka to take part in the seven-day tournament. Krishnaraja MLA T.S.

Nagesh, committee secretary Narasimhamurthy, working president Dharmendra and participating wrestlers were present at the ceremony. The tournament forms part of the wider Dasara programme in Mysuru.

Its opening is scheduled alongside the start of the festival, while the wrestling events will continue through October 17.
