Mysuru officials inspect Dasara procession route over crowd risks

Senior police and civic officials in Mysuru have inspected the route of the Jamboo Savari procession ahead of the Dasara festivities and discussed measures to manage crowds. Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner M.K. Savita, Deputy Commissioners of Police Harsha Priyamvada and Sundar Raj, and other officials visited Sayyaji Rao Road on Tuesday.

The road is a key section of the procession route and usually attracts large crowds. The officials reviewed plans to stop spectators from climbing trees and buildings to obtain a better view of the procession. Authorities said the measures were needed both to prevent accidents during the rush and to protect heritage structures along the route.

The century-old Devaraja Market is among the heritage buildings located near the route. Police and civic officials are working on ways to prevent people from climbing such structures or nearby trees. Crowd-management concerns have increased because even rehearsals involving the Dasara elephants attract large numbers of spectators.

Officials expect the turnout to be considerably higher on Jamboo Savari day. The procession will cover nearly five kilometres from Mysuru Palace to Bannimantap. Spectators are expected to gather to watch caparisoned elephants, the golden ambari, cultural and folk troupes, tableaux and other features of the event.
