Nandyal MP promises action on proposed railway underpass

Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari has promised to take steps towards constructing a railway underpass at Nunepalli on the outskirts of Nandyal town in Andhra Pradesh. Shabari visited a protest camp on Wednesday, where villagers represented by the Nunepalli Development Committee had been demonstrating for two days. The protesters were demanding an underpass to address traffic problems they said had affected the area for several years.

The MP told the protesters that she had raised the issue with the Union Railway Ministry and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu two months after taking office. She also referred to measures taken by the alliance government, Nandyal MLA and Minorities Welfare Minister N.

Md. Farooq. Shabari said a meeting would be held at the District Collector’s office with Collector Rajakumari Ganiya and officials from the Railways, Roads and Buildings department and the municipal corporation.

She said decisions from the meeting would be sent to the Chief Minister’s office by Thursday to help find a resolution. She praised the committee for maintaining unity around the issue and asked for its cooperation in future development work in Nunepalle. She also assured residents that the matter would be resolved.

The MP appealed to the villagers to call off their protest, while telling them they could resume it if the issue was not settled. The protesters subsequently ended the demonstration. Shabari then inspected the railway track beside Nunepalli railway station to assess the need for an underpass.
