Navy cautions public over fake DSSC recruitment notices

The Nigerian Navy has warned the public against fraudulent notices circulating on social media that claim to announce recruitment for Direct Short Service Commission Course 30. Captain Abi Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, issued the warning in a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday. He said the notices were not produced by the Navy and that its DSSC recruitment exercise had not begun.

The false notices reportedly list openings and qualifications in areas including medicine, engineering, law and information and communications technology. Folorunsho said any genuine announcement would be published on his page, the Navy’s official website and its verified social-media platforms. He urged members of the public not to give money or personal details to people claiming they could secure recruitment places.

The warning reflects the risk faced by applicants when unofficial notices are presented as government recruitment announcements. The Navy’s caution followed its announcement of a separate 2026 Batch 39 recruitment exercise for the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School. That exercise is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, through the official recruitment portal.

The Navy said the Basic Training School process is free and warned applicants against making payments to anyone offering to facilitate selection. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a National Identification Number and meet stated educational, age, physical and medical conditions. The Navy stressed that the DSSC exercise mentioned in the false notices is separate from the Batch 39 basic-training recruitment.

No start date for the DSSC process was provided in the warning.
