Nigeria’s Flamingos win WAFU-B Under-17 title with 4-0 final victory

Nigeria’s Flamingos won the 2026 WAFU-B Under-17 Girls Cup after defeating Togo 4-0 in the final in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire. The victory completed a perfect tournament for Nigeria, which recorded five wins from five matches. The team scored 17 goals and conceded two, according to figures published with the tournament report.

Captain Chidera Harmony opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 15th minute. She converted a second penalty 20 minutes later to give Nigeria a 2-0 lead at half-time. Nigeria continued to control the match after the interval.

Oluebube Umejiaku added a third goal in the 67th minute before Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the scoring in the 90th minute. The result gave the Flamingos the regional title after an unbeaten campaign marked by attacking efficiency and defensive discipline, the report said. Nigeria Football Federation Acting General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme congratulated the players and officials.

He said the team had made the country proud and expressed confidence in its prospects at the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, which was due to start the following month. Ikpeme also described the WAFU-B tournament as useful preparation for the global competition. The Flamingos, bronze medallists at the 2022 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup, were scheduled to return to Nigeria on Tuesday.
