Nigeria’s military reports 367 attacks and 52 killings in September

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters said the armed forces recorded 367 attacks across their operational theatres in September 2026 and killed 52 terrorists and criminals during responses to the incidents. Maj. Gen.

Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, gave the figures while presenting the military’s operational achievements on Wednesday. He said troops engaged attackers with superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres. Operation Enduring Peace recorded the highest number of attacks, with 147 incidents.

It was followed by Operation Fansan Yamma with 115 and Operation Whirl Stroke with 55. Operation Hadin Kai recorded 33 attacks, while Operation Savannah Shield recorded 13 and Operation Udo Ka recorded four. Operation Delta Safe reported none.

Onoja said troops arrested 350 terrorists and criminals, rescued 655 kidnapped civilians and facilitated the surrender of 75 insurgents during the month. The military also recovered 52 firearms and 2,335 rounds of ammunition. It dismantled eight illegal refining sites and recovered more than 304,822 litres of stolen petroleum products, according to the Defence Headquarters.

For the third quarter, Onoja reported that troops killed 554 terrorists and criminals, arrested 1,333, rescued 1,736 kidnapped civilians and recorded the surrender of 333 insurgents. The quarterly figures also included the recovery of 244 firearms and 8,160 rounds of ammunition, the dismantling of 104 illegal refining sites and the recovery of 1,610,402 litres of stolen petroleum products. Onoja said the results reflected continued military activity against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and secessionist agitation.
