Nilgiris to hold camps for first-time voter registration

The Nilgiris district administration in Tamil Nadu will organise special camps across its three Assembly constituencies to enrol young and other eligible voters who were left off the electoral rolls. The initiative follows directions from India’s Election Commission on continuous updating after a special revision process.
Special camps will be held across the three Assembly constituencies in India’s Nilgiris district to enrol first-time and other eligible voters who are not yet on the electoral rolls, the district administration has said. The administration announced the plan in a statement published on October 4, 2026. It said the camps would be conducted by Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers in the district’s three constituencies.
The initiative follows communication from the Election Commission of India dated September 29, according to the statement. The commission directed states and union territories where the Special Intensive Revision had been completed to conduct a special drive under the continuous updating process. The drive is intended to include eligible young people and others who were left out of the electoral rolls.
The district administration did not provide dates, venues or the number of people expected to be enrolled. It clarified that the declaration form attached to Form 6 applied during the Special Intensive Revision phase only. Outside that phase, the forms prescribed under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, would be used.
The camps will involve the election registration officers responsible for the Nilgiris constituencies, along with their assistant officers. Residents seeking inclusion in the rolls will therefore be able to approach the officials managing registration in their respective constituencies. The district administration’s announcement focused on the registration process and did not announce any changes to voting arrangements or eligibility requirements.
It said the special drive was being undertaken in response to the Election Commission’s direction and as part of the regular updating of electoral records.
