NIPC leads 2026 transparency ranking of federal institutions

The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission has been ranked the most transparent federal institution in the 2026 Transparency and Integrity Index released by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity. NIPC scored 84.14 per cent, leading 518 assessed ministries, departments, agencies and government-owned enterprises. Kaduna State led the state table with 54.68 per cent among 35 assessed states.

The index evaluates institutions in five areas: fiscal transparency, open procurement and contracting, human resources and inclusion, control of corruption, and citizens’ engagement. It was developed in 2021 by CeFTPI in collaboration with the Bureau of Public Service Reforms. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ranked second among federal institutions with 80.13 per cent, followed by the Development Bank of Nigeria, the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency and TETFund.

The report said many institutions scored below 20 per cent. The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development recorded zero, while Niger ranked last among states. Osun followed Kaduna with 50.54 per cent.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume urged institutions to use the findings in management planning, budgets, procurement, staff training and public disclosure. He said high-performing bodies should preserve their practices, while others needed to identify and address their weaknesses. BPSR director-general Dasuki Arabi said the index responded to public questions about how resources were managed, procurement conducted and recruitment handled.

CeFTPI executive director Umar Yakubu presented the report in Abuja. The report also recorded perfect scores for some institutions in specific areas, including financial disclosure and procurement.
