The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has raided an allegedly illegal fruit-juice factory in the Badagry area of Lagos State and arrested two female suspects, Channels Television reports. The operation took place at Talabi Onilegbale Street, Aradagun, in Olorunda Local Council Development Area, at about 9 p.m. on September 19, 2026, according to NSCDC officials.
They said operatives encountered resistance from youths in the area. NSCDC officials alleged that the facility produced, sold and distributed fruit juice branded “Barkas Juice”. A truck loaded with products, cartons and rolls of labels were seen at the site, according to video described by Channels Television.
Officials also pointed to a dirty well and an unclean industrial storage tank, saying the well was used to obtain production water. The corps alleged that children aged 15 and 16 were recruited in the production process. It also said a check of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control portal did not show the product name.
Officials alleged that the drinks contained high levels of sugar, water, additives and dyes. One arrested woman said production occurred three or four times a year and that the business had operated for about 20 years, supplying locations outside Lagos. NSCDC said further information would be provided and that the case would be taken to court.
