Oyo deputy governor commissions Egbeda council office complex

Oyo State Deputy Governor Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal has commissioned a new office complex for the chairman of Egbeda Local Government and said the council was positioned for accelerated development. The complex was inaugurated on Friday at the Egbeda council secretariat in Ibadan, where awards were also presented to former chairmen of the local government. Lawal linked Egbeda’s prospects to projects including the Ibadan Circular Road, an Air Force Base in Ajia and the Ajoda Housing Estate.
He said the developments would place the council within emerging development corridors and significantly transform its fortunes. The deputy governor appealed to residents and property owners affected by the Circular Road project to regard it as a long-term investment in the state. He assured them that those whose properties were demolished would be compensated in line with overriding public interest.
Lawal said the road corridor would be properly planned to avoid the unplanned settlements that developed around the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway after its construction in 1977. He said the government was planning for the next 10 to 30 years and wanted future development to be sustainable. The newly commissioned office complex was funded through Egbeda Local Government’s internally generated revenue, according to Executive Chairman Sikiru Sanda.
Sanda described the building as a legacy of his administration and thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for providing what he called a platform and autonomy for local governments to pursue development projects. Sanda said additional projects were under way and pledged to continue serving Egbeda and Oyo State until the end of his tenure. The Head of Administration, Monsurat Ayo-Alaga, said the building reflected the council’s commitment to prudent financial management, accountability and the use of public resources.
She also said the recognition of former chairmen acknowledged their contributions to the council’s growth. Officials and dignitaries at the event included members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, local government representatives, traditional rulers and religious leaders.
