Police rescue 16-year-old boy, arrest alleged kidnapper in Bauchi
Bauchi police said they rescued a 16-year-old boy allegedly abducted from Misau and arrested a 60-year-old suspect. The command also reported arrests in separate cases involving alleged housebreaking, theft and possession of suspected stolen property, all of which were referred for investigation.
Police in Bauchi State have arrested a 60-year-old man, Abdullahi Abubakar, over the alleged kidnapping of a 16-year-old boy and rescued the teenager unharmed, the command said on Tuesday. The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said the boy, Usman Dauda, was allegedly taken from Misau town to Bangala Village in Shira Local Government Area. The victim’s 50-year-old father reported the matter to Yana Divisional Police Headquarters at about 10pm on September 28, 2026.
Habib said the suspect allegedly intended to take the teenager to Kano for reasons that had not been established. Detectives mobilised after receiving the report, rescued the boy and arrested Abubakar. The teenager was taken to General Hospital Yana for medical examination.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect had unlawfully confined the boy in his room for one day and had not properly fed him. The command did not provide further details about the alleged motive. In a separate operation, officers from the ‘A’ Division arrested five suspects at Doya Quarters, Bauchi, over alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, housebreaking, mischief and theft.
Habib said the suspects allegedly entered an incomplete building and removed windows and glass before the owner arrived. The items were recovered. Police also arrested suspects allegedly found with stolen property concealed in a black bag.
The command said the owners later came to the station with proof of ownership and collected the items. Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu directed that all the cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and prosecution. Habib urged residents to provide timely and credible information.
