Prince Harry welcomes return to Britain as family settles into UK life

Prince Harry has said it feels “great” to be back in Britain after spending six years living in California. He made the comments to Canadian television network CTV after completing a charity skydive near Toronto. Harry said his children were happy at school and that returning to Britain gave him an opportunity to focus on the Invictus Games, which will take place in Birmingham from July 10 to 17 next year.

Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior working royals and moved to the United States in 2020. They returned to live in Britain last month and are understood to be based at a private property in the Cotswolds, outside London. Their children, Archie and Lilibet, were moved to another school shortly after starting there because of security concerns.

According to the source material, the Sussexes’ private security team was concerned about the distance and traffic on the school route. Harry has continued to undertake public engagements linked to the Invictus Games. Last week, he visited a Birmingham school to launch an education programme inspired by the event, playing pickleball with pupils and joining a science lesson on prosthetic design.

The next Games are expected to bring together 550 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from 25 countries. Competitors will take part in 12 adaptive sports. Harry said there were “lots of reasons” for the family’s return but did not elaborate.

The move has taken place amid tensions with the Royal Family. The Sussexes are also awaiting a decision on whether they will receive taxpayer-funded security in Britain. The committee overseeing royal and VIP security is due to reconsider the family’s police protection now that they are full-time residents rather than visitors.
