Project LEAD will bring together 100 senior secondary school girls from 10 Lagos local government areas for its seventh annual International Day of the Girl Child Conference on October 10. The programme will cover leadership, careers, mental health, decision-making and personal development.

Project LEAD, a social enterprise focused on developing young female leaders, will bring together 100 senior secondary school girls from 10 Lagos local government areas for its seventh annual International Day of the Girl Child Conference. The conference is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at Fantasia Hall, Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos. Organisers said it would help participants make informed choices about education, careers, leadership and personal development.

The 2026 conference is themed “Her Choice, Her Future, Her Legacy: Empowering Girls to Dream, Lead, and Build a Legacy of Excellence.” Project LEAD said the programme was based on the view that efforts to empower women should begin before adulthood. Activities will include leadership training, mentorship, career discussions, self-discovery exercises and a student debate. Sessions will also address decision-making and pressures that can affect young girls’ choices.

Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Social Development Mobolaji Ogunlende is expected to deliver the keynote address. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, special adviser on blue economy and general manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority, is expected to be the guest speaker. The event will also mark World Mental Health Day with a session titled “Her Mind.

Her Choices. Her Future: How to Make Decisions That Protect the Woman You Are Becoming.” Yemisi Vese will facilitate the session. Breakout discussions themed “Dignity in Labour” will expose participants to different career paths.

Professionals from Eko Hotels & Suites will lead sessions on work, professionalism and career development. Project LEAD founder Uzoamaka Amalu said the organisation believed empowerment should begin while girls were forming their aspirations. The conference will conclude with a debate sponsored by Alitheia Capital.

Eko Hotel & Suites is the event’s sponsor, while Pandora Global Agency Ltd is the public relations partner.
