Nigerian e-hailing platform ProTaxi has started operations in Abuja with electric vehicles, promising an alternative transport option and an income programme for drivers. Its parent organisation, PromiseLand Innovation, says it plans to onboard 1,000 drivers and expand the service to other states.

Home-grown e-hailing platform ProTaxi has begun operations in Abuja, offering rides in electric vehicles and outlining plans to create income opportunities for drivers and their families. The service was unveiled on Thursday by PromiseLand Innovation, which described ProTaxi as part of its wider effort to use technology and innovation to create economic opportunities. The company had previously announced a plan to onboard and empower 1,000 drivers with electric vehicles.

At the launch, PromiseLand Innovation chief executive Emmanuel Lawrence Oloche said the platform was intended to be more than an e-hailing application. He said each ride would support a driver whose income could help meet family needs such as school fees and rent. Oloche said the company wanted to create opportunities for thousands of drivers and extend the impact to families and communities.

He also said the organisation aimed to build an African technology company capable of transforming everyday life and competing internationally. The company presented electric mobility as an affordable transport alternative for Nigerians. It did not provide fares, the number of vehicles currently operating, charging arrangements or details of the areas in Abuja covered by the service.

Gift Emmanuel, executive director of Promiseland Estate, said the initiative was designed to help the public. She said operations had started in Abuja and that the company planned to expand to other states. Prince Adetokunbo Ademola Ade-John, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Transportation and Mobility, praised the initiative and said it aligned with the administration’s vision for transportation and mobility.

The launch marks the start of ProTaxi’s Abuja operations. The supplied material does not state how many drivers have already joined, when expansion will begin or whether the planned 1,000-vehicle driver programme has been fully financed or implemented.
