Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called on Home Minister Amit Shah to respond to allegations that Delhi Police personnel mistreated women protesters and journalists at Jantar Mantar. The All India Students’ Association made similar allegations, including claims of groping.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has demanded answers from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over allegations of misconduct by Delhi Police personnel during a protest at Jantar Mantar. Gandhi said a female journalist had accused a police officer of misconduct and that hundreds of journalists had remained at the site seeking registration of a first information report. He questioned why such a complaint had not been registered.

In a post on X, Gandhi also alleged that hundreds of people were taken into custody on Saturday. He said women protesters and journalists had been mistreated, cameras had been seized and journalists had been dragged. Gandhi linked responsibility for the police to Shah because Delhi Police comes under the Union Home Ministry.

He said women and students were protesting over concerns about safety while the force responsible for protecting them was accused of using force against them. The All India Students’ Association made similar allegations in a statement. It said women protesters, journalists and lawyers had been manhandled by male police officers and that several women had complained of being groped.

AISA said the alleged conduct showed a failure to follow basic crowd-management protocols. It also accused male officers of abusing women protesters and behaving unprofessionally. The supplied material records the allegations and calls for accountability but does not include a response from the Delhi Police or the Home Ministry.
