The Singareni Collieries Company transported 299.4 lakh tonnes of coal in the first six months of the financial year, up 4% from the same period last year. Supplies to Telangana thermal power stations rose sharply, while the company said it was targeting higher annual production and transportation.

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited transported 299.4 lakh tonnes of coal during the first six months of the current financial year, an increase from 287.6 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period last year. The company reported the figures for the half-year ending September 30. SCCL said it supplied 198.2 lakh tonnes to thermal power stations in Telangana, compared with 159.1 lakh tonnes during the same period last year.

That represented a 24.58% increase and reflected the company’s stated focus on meeting the State’s energy requirements. Supplies to Kothagudem Thermal Power Station rose from 26.4 lakh tonnes to 39.8 lakh tonnes, an increase of 50.76%. Deliveries to Yadadri Thermal Power Station increased 57.67%, from 21.5 lakh tonnes to 33.9 lakh tonnes.

Bhadradri Thermal Power Station received 24.4 lakh tonnes, compared with 19.5 lakh tonnes last year. Coal transportation to Singareni Thermal Power Station reached 26.6 lakh tonnes, up 27.27%. Supplies to NTPC Telangana rose from 19.4 lakh tonnes to 25.3 lakh tonnes.

Coal supplies to NTPC Ramagundam were the exception among the plants identified by SCCL. Deliveries declined marginally to 42.7 lakh tonnes from 43.5 lakh tonnes in the comparable period. The company attributed the higher supplies to special measures taken in view of El Niño conditions and the need to maintain uninterrupted power generation in Telangana.

It said it had coordinated with power-sector agencies following directions from the State and Central governments. SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Buddhaprakash Jyoti has been reviewing production and transportation targets daily with area general managers, while five senior officials have been assigned to monitor coal movement to thermal stations. The company is targeting annual coal production of 620 lakh tonnes and transportation of 650 lakh tonnes.

Jyoti said meeting Telangana’s power requirements was a responsibility beyond commercial considerations.
