Scott says Trump allies will provide funds to defend Senate majority

Sen. Tim Scott, the chairman of the Senate Republican campaign effort, said Wednesday that President Donald Trump’s political network had assured Republican senators they would have the money needed to compete in this year’s midterm elections. Scott said White House chief of staff Susie Wiles gave that assurance during a private meeting with Republican senators on Monday evening.

“She said money would not be our problem,” Scott told reporters. The comments came as MAGA Inc. and affiliated groups promised to invest millions of dollars in battleground Senate races.

Scott said the financial support would be important as Republicans seek to retain or expand their Senate majority. “Cash is king,” Scott said. He added that Trump and his agenda would be on the ballot, making the president’s involvement central to the party’s strategy.

Trump has been campaigning to rally Republican voters as party officials confront what Scott described as sluggish enthusiasm. Republicans face a range of competitive races. Scott acknowledged that the contest in Kansas, where newcomer Adam Hamilton is challenging Republican Sen.

Roger Marshall, is closer than expected. He also said the party had “more work to do” in Georgia, where Republican Mike Collins is seeking to unseat Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff.
