Seven injured in suspected drunk-driving hit-and-run near Hyderabad

Seven workers at a bar and restaurant were injured when a car allegedly struck them as they walked home near ECIL in Hyderabad in the early hours of September 29. Three of the workers were seriously injured, while the others suffered bleeding injuries, according to the police account reported by The Hindu. The group had finished its shift at a bar and restaurant in S.P.

Nagar, Moula Ali, and was walking near a junior college at about 12.30 a.m. A Hyundai Verna allegedly approached from behind at high speed and hit the workers. The driver did not stop after the collision and fled the scene, according to a complaint filed by a co-worker, Vikram Kumar, 25.

Police identified the driver as Pavan Kumar, 36. They issued him a notice and sent his blood samples to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis as part of an investigation into suspected drunk driving. Ajay Kumar, Bipin Kumar Yadav and Rajesh Yadav sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital.

Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Ranjan Yadav, Biwash Kumar and Kapender Yadav also suffered injuries. The injured workers were initially taken to a private hospital in ECIL for first aid. They were later moved to another hospital for further treatment, with three remaining admitted because of the seriousness of their injuries.

Kushaiguda police registered a case under Section 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after receiving the complaint at about 2 a.m. The investigation is continuing, and the forensic analysis will form part of the inquiry into the suspected role of alcohol in the crash.
