Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed Telangana departments to prepare a comprehensive framework for protecting children online, in consultation with the High Court and the State Legal Services Authority. He also urged parents to discuss children’s internet use and learn the 1930 and 1098 helplines.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed departments concerned to prepare a comprehensive online safety framework for children in consultation with the High Court and the State Legal Services Authority. He announced the direction while inaugurating a south zone regional conference on enhancing access to justice for children in cyberspace in Hyderabad on October 3.

The two-day conference was convened jointly by the National Legal Services Authority and the Telangana State Legal Services Authority. Mr. Reddy said the State government would fully support the State Legal Services Authority in extending its work to every district and village.

He also stressed that parents should be part of discussions on children’s online safety. The Chief Minister asked parents to speak with their children about their internet use and urged them to be curious rather than judgemental. He said children required support, guidance, love and understanding.

Mr. Reddy also said every child and parent should know the cybercrime helpline, 1930, and the child helpline, 1098. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said children needed continuous legal support, from prevention and protection to rehabilitation, when they encountered cyber offenders.

He said children who became victims of cybercrime should not feel guilty and should be encouraged to report cyberbullying and other offences. The conference focused on preventing online sexual exploitation and strengthening child-friendly justice and protection. Its stated themes included prevention, protection, investigation, legal aid and rehabilitation.

Supreme Court judges, the Telangana High Court Chief Justice and other judicial officials attended the event.
