Troops rescue 10 people during separate Zamfara abduction attempts
Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued 10 people during two operations in Zamfara State, according to the task force. Four villagers were freed in Maru Local Government Area, while six people escaped after gunfire caused their vehicle to lose control during an attempted abduction along the Tsafe-Funtua Road.
Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have foiled two abduction attempts and rescued 10 people in separate operations in Zamfara State, the task force said. The operations took place on Sunday, September 27, in Maru and Tsafe local government areas, according to a statement issued by the force’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col.
Aliyu Danja. Danja said troops from Sector 2 responded to information that terrorists had abducted villagers at Kade Daba village in Kanoma District, Maru. The troops engaged the attackers and rescued three victims before finding a fourth during further searches.
In a separate incident on the Tsafe-Funtua Road, troops conducting a picketing operation heard gunshots near Kwanoni. They moved towards the location and encountered terrorists withdrawing through higher ground. The troops engaged the attackers, who fled, Danja said.
Before the soldiers arrived, the terrorists had set a Sharon vehicle on fire while trying to abduct its occupants. The occupants escaped before the vehicle was completely engulfed. Six other people were rescued from a vehicle that lost control because of the gunfire.
It was later towed from the road to restore traffic. The task force commander praised the troops and urged residents to provide timely information on suspicious activity.
