Two arrested in Thiruvananthapuram with alleged MDMA haul
Police in Thiruvananthapuram have arrested two men after allegedly finding nearly 100g of MDMA hidden in a car. The arrests followed a separate seizure of 105g of the drug the previous day, as authorities investigate suspected supply to areas around Technopark and Kazhakuttam.
Two men have been arrested in Thiruvananthapuram after police allegedly recovered nearly 100 grams of MDMA from a car near the Kovalam bypass junction. The Thiruvananthapuram City District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force identified the men as Ananthakrishnan of Sreekaryam and Thomas of Thumba. Police said they were intercepted while allegedly transporting the drug for sale in Kazhakuttam and other areas near Technopark.
According to police, the suspects attempted to escape after realising they were being followed and rammed their vehicle into a police car. Officers pursued and stopped the vehicle. A search allegedly found one packet of MDMA concealed inside the fuel-tank lid and another inside one suspect’s shoe.
Police said Ananthakrishnan was a history-sheeter with several cases registered within Sreekaryam police station’s jurisdiction. The operation followed a separate seizure of 105g of MDMA at East Fort on Sunday. An excise team arrested Akash of Kallambalam and Aravind of Chullimanoor in that case.
Officials said the second consignment had allegedly been brought from Bengaluru and was being transported towards Kollam. The suspects had arrived in Thiruvananthapuram by bus and were travelling on a two-wheeler when they were apprehended. The authorities alleged that the East Fort suspects planned to sell the substance to school and college students.
