The West African Examinations Council has appointed Suleiman Kum, a career test administrator and former deputy registrar, as head of its Nigeria National Office. Kum succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026, according to WAEC’s Nigeria office.
The West African Examinations Council has appointed Suleiman Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office, the council’s Nigeria office said in a statement on Sunday. Kum, 56, previously served as deputy registrar in the head office and was senior deputy registrar responsible for test administration until the end of August. He succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure expired on October 1, 2026.
Dangut has since become WAEC’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer. The council’s Head of Public Affairs in Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina, described Kum as an experienced test developer, administrator and executive. Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II.
The council credited him with work on variable data printing and security features in examination materials, as well as the introduction of facial-recognition biometric devices to replace council-wide attendance systems. The statement also said he led the delivery of achievement tests through computer-based examinations and had experience in test development, administration, examination security, and branch and zonal office management. He was involved in establishing the Gusau office as a custodial centre.
During his career, Kum held security and branch management positions in Awka, Yola, Makurdi, Gusau and Kano. He also served as head of the Security Printing Department, zonal coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, director of administration, and senior deputy registrar for test administration. Kum is from Plateau State.
He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria and is pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the same institution. WAEC said his career had earned him institutional commendations and awards.
