Wakefield Trinity won their first Super League-era championship and their first English title since 1968 by defeating Warrington Wolves at Old Trafford. They built a 19-0 half-time lead, withstood a second-half challenge and completed a remarkable rise after returning from the Championship two years ago.

Wakefield Trinity won the Super League title by defeating Warrington Wolves at Old Trafford, securing their first English championship since 1968 and becoming only the sixth club to win the competition in the Super League era. Wakefield dominated the first half and led 19-0 at the interval. Cameron Scott, Isaiah Vagana and Jazz Tevaga scored tries, while Jack Sinfield added a drop goal to extend the advantage.

Warrington responded early in the second half when Arron Lindop scored after Wakefield centre Corey Hall was sent to the sin bin. Lindop later added a second try, but Wakefield restored control when Tom Johnstone crossed. The result ended Warrington’s latest attempt to win a first title since 1955.

The Wolves had reached their fifth Super League grand final and arrived after nine wins in 10 matches, but could not convert their second-half pressure into a comeback. Wakefield’s victory completed an unexpected run through the play-offs. The club finished fourth in the regular season, their highest position in the Super League era, after placing sixth the previous year.

They then beat Leigh Leopards and stunned Wigan Warriors in the semi-final. The club had been in the Championship only two years earlier. It won the Championship play-off final before its return to Super League was confirmed through the IMG grading system after relegation in 2023.

Wakefield’s tries were scored by Scott, Vagana, Tevaga and Johnstone, with Sinfield contributing the drop goal and Louis Jowitt kicking three goals. Warrington’s points came from Lindop’s two tries. The victory fulfilled coach Daryl Powell’s challenge to his players to establish a lasting place in the club’s history.
