Wakode’s father denied permission to continue Azad Maidan protest

Ravindra Wakode, whose son Sahil allegedly died by suicide at IIT Bombay, has been denied permission to continue his protest at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, his lawyer said. He plans to visit the institute’s Powai campus as students separately intensify an agitation seeking accountability from the administration.
Ravindra Wakode, the father of deceased IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode, has been denied permission to continue his protest at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, according to the family’s lawyer. He is now planning to visit the institute’s Powai campus, the lawyer said on Saturday. The development comes as a group of IIT Bombay students intensifies its agitation over Sahil’s death.
The students began a hunger strike on Friday, seeking accountability from the institute administration. Ravindra Wakode and his wife began an indefinite hunger strike last week. They are demanding justice for their son and the arrest of Professor Suryanarayana Doolla and IIT Bombay director Shireesh Kedare.
Sahil, a 22-year-old second-year B.Tech student, was found hanging in his hostel room on September 18. This occurred hours after he was allegedly caught using a mobile phone during a mid-semester examination. His parents have alleged that he faced caste-based discrimination at the institute.
The Powai police registered an FIR against Professor Doolla after Ravindra Wakode filed a complaint. The Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, questioned Professor Doolla for nearly 10 hours on October 1 and recorded his statement. Police have also recorded statements from about 40 people, including Sahil’s parents, fellow students and IIT hostel staff.
Electronic devices belonging to the deceased student have been sent for forensic examination, according to reports.
