A 52-year-old woman and her two daughters, aged 22 and 20, were found dead in a well in Ikkalaki village, Kalaburagi district. A police complaint cited family debt and concerns about the daughters’ mental health, but officers said the precise circumstances of the deaths had not been established and an investigation was under way.

A 52-year-old woman and her two daughters were found dead in a well at Ikkalaki village in Karnataka’s Aland taluk, Kalaburagi district, on Wednesday, police said. The deceased were identified as Gourabai Peerappa Talakeri and her daughters, Ambika, 22, and Bhagyashree, 20. They were residents of the village.

According to a complaint filed by Gourabai’s husband, Peerappa Talakeri, the family owed about ₹2 lakh to a nationalised bank in Madan Hipparagi and a further ₹4 lakh in private borrowing. The complaint said Gourabai had been worried about the family’s financial circumstances. It also stated that both daughters had mental-health issues.

Gourabai had reportedly left home on Wednesday saying she was going to agricultural fields to collect fodder for cattle. She and her daughters were later found in a well on land belonging to Sridevi Patil, according to the complaint. Police visited the site, carried out an initial inspection and registered a case.

However, police sources said the exact circumstances leading to the deaths had not been determined. Financial distress has been cited as a possible factor, but the available report does not establish how the three died or whether anyone else was involved. The investigation was continuing.

The report included a reminder that people experiencing distress or suicidal thoughts can seek counselling through Arogya Sahayavani on 104.
