AAP says it will skip INDIA bloc meeting over Election Commission dispute

The Aam Aadmi Party will not attend a meeting of India’s opposition INDIA bloc on alleged irregularities involving the Election Commission, MP Sanjay Singh said on Wednesday. Singh said AAP was no longer part of the alliance and therefore had no reason to join the meeting. The party announced its exit from the INDIA bloc on July 18, 2025, with Singh saying the grouping had been created for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“ Aam Aadmi Party is not part of the INDIA bloc,” Singh said in response to a question about the meeting. He added that the party supported an impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and was challenging what he described as shortcomings at the Election Commission “from the streets to Parliament”. The INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi was intended to finalise a joint action plan over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, TMC leader Mamata Banerjee and representatives of several other opposition parties were listed among those attending. Singh claimed that 2.7 million voters in West Bengal had been deprived of voting rights. He also questioned the time being taken by tribunals to complete hearings connected with the revision process.
According to Singh, 93 per cent of people in 126,000 cases heard so far had been found eligible. He alleged that completing the entire process could take 12 years. He also questioned the deletion of names from electoral rolls, alleging that 133.7 million names had been removed across India.
Singh criticised changes to Form 6, which is used to apply for inclusion on electoral rolls, calling the changes illegal and unconstitutional. Singh appealed for support for a planned protest by the CJP on the Election Commission issue.
