A Central pilot project will use 3D-printed concrete walls to build 177 rural houses in two villages in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district. The scheme, under PMAY-G 2.0, will assess construction quality, durability, costs and suitability to local conditions, with technical support from the CSIR-Central Building Research Institute.

A Central government pilot project will use 3D-printed concrete walls to build 177 houses in two villages in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin 2.0. Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said on Thursday that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would launch the project at Burripalem near Tenali on October 4.

The houses will use 3D Concrete Printing technology with technical support from the CSIR-Central Building Research Institute in Roorkee. The proposal covers 100 houses at Burripalem in Tenali mandal and 77 at Obulnaidupalem/Pothuru in Guntur Rural mandal. Eligible beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other categories have been identified under the project proposal.

The PMAY-G 2.0 unit cost is ₹2.39 lakh, while the detailed engineering estimate is approximately ₹6.49 lakh per house at Burripalem and ₹6.60 lakh at Pothuru and Obulnaidupalem. Those estimates include site development, house construction, staircases, toilets, ramps and shades where required, as well as statutory provisions and GST. The core house component is estimated at ₹2.50 lakh per unit, with 3D-printed masonry based on the CBRI design.

The pilot is intended to test technology-driven rural housing and assess the quality and durability of construction, the components of its cost and its suitability to local site conditions. Field experience from the two villages will be used to evaluate whether 3D Concrete Printing could be adopted more widely for rural housing under PMAY-G.
