Andhra University’s Department of Yoga and Consciousness held a free Ayurvedic medical camp in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. A retired King George Hospital medical officer examined patients and distributed medicines, while warning people against relying on unsuitable treatment advice found on social media.

Andhra University’s Department of Yoga and Consciousness held a free Ayurvedic medical camp at Yoga Village on Beach Road in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The camp ran from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

and offered examinations and medicines without charge. Dr K. Eswara Rao, a retired senior medical officer of King George Hospital, examined patients at the event.

Rao said he had organised the camp on the first Sunday of every month since 2022. He also visits the university department as a guest faculty member and speaks about the relationship between yoga and Ayurveda. He said the combination of yoga and Ayurveda could prevent 80% of primary diseases.

He cited psychiatric problems and lifestyle-related conditions, including diabetes, obesity, gastritis and polycystic ovarian disease, as issues he believed could be addressed through Ayurveda. Rao said his aim was to provide guidance and prescribe appropriate Ayurvedic medicines. He warned that some people were relying on advice from social media and being led towards unsuitable medication.

He said this was contributing to mistaken impressions about Ayurveda. The supplied report did not provide details about the number of patients examined or the medicines distributed. The camp was conducted with the cooperation of the university’s Department of Yoga and Consciousness, according to the report.
