Army says 16 terrorists killed in Adamawa operations as three soldiers die

Nigeria’s Operation Hadin Kai says troops killed 16 terrorists during an ambush in Adamawa State and recovered rifles, magazines and ammunition. The military also reported that three soldiers were killed while repelling attacks on two battalion positions, as follow-up operations continued across the area.
Troops of Nigeria’s Operation Hadin Kai killed 16 terrorists during an ambush in the Boima general area of Gombi Local Government Area in Adamawa State, the military said. The operation was part of coordinated engagements conducted between September 30 and October 1, 2026, across Sector 4 of the North-East theatre, according to Capt. Mohammed Goni, the task force’s military information officer.
Goni said troops also recovered three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines and a belt of pump-action cartridges after exploiting the site of the ground operation. He said the action reduced the terrorists’ combat capability and restricted their movement in the sector. The military also reported an air operation early on October 1.
It said an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platform detected about 16 terrorists gathered with 15 motorcycles under tree cover. A precision strike was conducted at about 5:30am, and subsequent battle-damage assessment confirmed that the target had been destroyed, the spokesman said. At the same time, insurgents attacked troop positions at 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha.
Goni said the attacks were repelled after troops returned fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw. Three soldiers were killed during the fighting, while wounded personnel were evacuated and were receiving treatment in stable condition, according to the statement. Follow-up exploitation and mop-up operations were continuing in the area.
Goni linked the reported operations to an ongoing reorganisation of the Theatre Command, which he said was intended to improve coordination between land and air forces and other supporting elements. He said the command would maintain its operations against terrorist groups and use intelligence, technology and joint capabilities to restrict their freedom of action in the North-East.
