Ashram to honour families of Nellore freedom fighters on Gandhi Jayanti

The Pinakini Satyagraha Ashram in Pallepadu village, Nellore district, will hold Gandhi Jayanti celebrations on October 2 to commemorate freedom fighters and promote Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals. The programme, scheduled from 9 a.m., will include the unveiling of plaques bearing the names of freedom fighters from the erstwhile Nellore district. The individuals participated in the freedom movement and underwent imprisonment at different stages of the struggle.

Family members of the freedom fighters will be felicitated during the event. Organisers said the initiative was intended to preserve the memory of those who took part in the independence movement and ensure that their contributions remain known to future generations. The celebrations will also feature a free medical and dental camp under the aegis of the Indian Red Cross Society.

The camp will offer medical services and dental check-ups to members of the public. Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy are expected to attend as chief guests. Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad and Telangana MLC Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chari are among the other invited guests.

Ashram coordinator Pandipati Janardhan Reddy said the programme would give younger people an opportunity to understand the continuing relevance of truth, non-violence and Satyagraha. The event is being organised at the Pinakini Satyagraha Ashram in Indukurpet mandal. Its stated focus is both remembrance and public engagement, combining recognition of families connected to the freedom struggle with community health services.
