Atiku campaign says more appointments will follow initial council list

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council says it will announce further appointments as it expands its national structure for Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign. The council’s Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, made the announcement in a statement issued on Saturday, two days after the initial list of campaign officials was released. Shaibu said the first list was an important stage in organising the campaign but did not represent the final composition of the council.

He said consultations were continuing and that more responsibilities would be assigned as the structure expanded across the country. The campaign also sought to reassure supporters whose names were absent from the initial list. Shaibu said Atiku remained aware of the sacrifices made by people who had supported him over the years and urged those who felt disappointed to exercise patience.

The initial council named Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as director-general and campaign manager. Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi was named as Atiku’s running mate, while Dele Momodu and Dino Melaye received deputy director-general roles in the media and mobilisation directorates. However, former Central Bank of Nigeria deputy governor Kingsley Moghalu later rejected his listing on the council’s Policy Team, saying he had not been consulted or asked for consent.

Shaibu said the campaign planned to unveil zonal and state structures, along with further senior appointments and organisation reaching wards and polling units. He added that its policy work would address issues including living costs, food security, security, power, jobs, education, healthcare, housing and governance.
